Patrick Seha`s Piano Hanger for Feld - Innovative Coat Rack from Belgium
By Richard Maas
Warning: this product is not for hanging pianos. The Piano Hanger, designed by Patrick Seha for the innovative Antwerp design house, Feld, is a coat rack. It is assembled with parallel pieces of oak running its full height. In between the long oak pieces are four shorter pieces mounted on an axle near its bottom enabling the top to swing out several inches providing a hook for a coat. It resembles four rows of piano keys. Its contemporary design makes it more compatible in modern interiors, than brass plated coat racks of yesteryear. The lower rows are for children's coats, but can also be used to place wet, ice and snow covered boots and mittens on to dry and warm-up. Photos may be seen at Feld's website http://www.feld.be
When coats are hanging on it, its purpose is surprisingly apparent. But when nothing is hanging on it, it looks like an artistically rendered architectural feature. That's actually an important feature in regions of the United States, for example, where warm weather precludes the building of coat closets near the front door. There are still times when coats are desired or required. Its fine woodwork appearance makes it a versatile addition to homes, apartments, businesses and places of worship.
The options available for this coat rack are the 39 cm (15.35 inches) and the 81 cm (31.89 inches) widths. They also come in a light natural oak finish, black or white. It is between 4.5 and 5 feet in height. While it is designed to replace the main function of a coat closet, it could be placed inside of one if that is the most desirable location. The 39 cm model has six hooks per row for a total of 24, and the 81 cm model has twelve hooks per row for a total of 48. Additional units may be mounted next to each other to accommodate more users.
